OUR STORY

Before founding Casa Botelho, João Botelho enjoyed a 22 year career in global luxury retail, beginning his journey in sales for a prestigious Brazilian brand in his hometown, Belo Horizonte. With the ambition to explore the world and travel, he decided to move to Europe in 1994, making London his new home. Since then he has worked for Harvey Nichols, Nicole Farhi and Jasper Conran, opening Jasper Conran’s flagship Mayfair store in 2004. He joined Donna Karan New York in 2000 and has held several senior positions including, Director of Retail, Senior Director of Retail and Wholesale, and UK Managing Director for both Retail & Wholesale.

Having worked with iconic homeware designers and travelled around the globe, he has experienced style at its best, learned exquisite architectures and gained interiors’ knowhow, inspiring him to explore different sides of his creative personality through the redesign of a space.

“Are there any rules? Not really… but you need to be confident, have a good eye for layering items, and play around with scale, space, light, materials and colours.”

HOW IT STARTED

Joao’s obsession for homeware and passion for styling has led him to discover his desire for interiors. It was only when he and his partner successfully completed the redesign of their four-storey townhouse in East London that Joao realised he was deeply in love with the world of interior and furniture design. The townhouse was cleverly split into two properties, creating a modern two bedroom apartment in the basement, and a magnificent three storey property with a large new extension, open plan kitchen and diner, double reception and 3 large bedrooms.

During the journey he was able to design furnishings, doors, windows and customise kitchen, TV console, vanity unit, walk-in wardrobe as well as concrete floating shelves and sink, collaborating with Waind Gohil Architects. He built strong relationships with designers, home stores, contractors and architects which all comes together to ensure a smooth journey for his clients in the design of their interiors.

DEBUT COLLECTION

On March 17th 2016, Casa Botelho launched its debut luxury furniture range, The Martini Collection. The inspiration for the collection came from founder, João Botelho’s passion for Art Deco design and symmetry, all things James Bond and an obsession for petite tables. What started as a stylish and sexy discrete statement piece for the home, quickly evolved into the development of a dramatic collection.

Iconic martini cocktails are the inspiration behind the names of the six designs – Kangaroo, Vesper, Martinez, Gibson, Bronx and Manhattan. Available in a choice of two materials, steel and brass, these uniquely shaped tables have been designed to sit alongside armchairs, sofas, beds and baths, to make sure that your drink is always within easy reach.

Recently, Casa Botelho has launched further luxurious new ranges, including Bacco, Diana, Era and Hide collections. Each piece is handmade by artisans with impeccable attention to detail. A reflection of understated luxury, the collection focuses on craftsmanship, quality and poised elegance.

The journey continues……

“Our home signifies the tribe we feel we belong to; where we aim in our life’s journey; who we believe in ourselves to be, or the image we would like to project.
Casual or elegant, eclectic or boho, all communicate something about our personality and our ambition.”
– João Botelho

THE WAY WE WORK

Casa Botelho adores playing around with scale, lights, mirrors and seductive colour pallets, to pump up the intrigue a notch. We enjoy the use of luxe materials with super glam fabrics like cashmere, leather, animal prints and velvet.

Bringing together harmonising and contrasting textures, shapes and finishes: playing around with scale is a vital part of the interior design magic.

We are addicted to good light such as creating seductive ambiance with little pools of soft lighting through bold vintage chandeliers.

We enjoy playing with mirrors – “Mirrors are essential: they reflect light, add depth, expand horizons and add a magical allure”

Comfort is all-important – inviting armchairs, cosy sofas, sumptious cushions, coffee tables for putting up your feet and martini tables for your cocktails; “I adore mixing things up, it is way more exciting and creates rooms that are one of a kind”
